Portrait - the Next Generation in Skin Care

Q & A WITH JEFFREY DOVER, M.D. ABOUT NEW IMPROVEMENTS IN SKIN CARE TECHNOLOGY

Why Jeffrey Dover, MD Feels Portrait Plasma is the Next Generation in Skin Care

Question: With so many technologies being introduced every day, how do you as a professional cut through the clutter to determine what really works and what’s best for your patients?

Answer: “First I look at the company behind the product. Are they reputable? Do they have clinical data? And can they show me, the professional, how my patients are going to benefit.”

Question: With that in mind, what products/companies do you see out there that have the most promising new technology?

Answer: “Well, one product that my patients have been responding to with great enthusiasm is called Portrait® Plasma by a company called Rhytec, based in Waltham, MA. What impressed me about the product and the company is that they did clinical trials for three years prior to launching the product. They currently have 5 indications cleared by the FDA and more than 30 completed and ongoing clinical studies under their belt.”

Question: What makes Portrait® Plasma so special and different?

Answer: “Portrait® Plasma is unique in that it is completely different than an ablative laser, yet has similar or even better results. It can treat many conditions simultaneously, including deep wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, tone and texture and pigmentation. Most other treatments only focus on a single skin issue at a time.”

Question: So, you say this procedure is not a laser. What is it exactly?

Answer: “Plasma is highly energized gas and is a common form of matter. Energy sources such as the sun are made of plasma. With Portrait®, the power of plasma has been harnessed and delivers its thermal energy deep into the layers of the skin. The results are amazing.”

Question: Can you tailor this procedure to meet the specific needs for your patients?

Answer: “Definitely. Unlike other treatments, Portrait® Plasma can be tailored depending upon a patient’s needs and lifestyle. They can choose a single treatment or three treatments three to four weeks apart.”

Question: So, how much recovery time is there and what can the patient expect?

Answer: “For the highest energy level, you only need one treatment and there is about one week of recovery time. Patient will experience redness similar to a sun burn which will bronze and peel revealing dramatic results. The lower energy procedure requires multiple visits but the recovery time is greatly reduced. While it takes longer, they will get marked improvement.”

Question: How much does the procedure cost and how long will it last?

Answer: “Cost varies from doctor to doctor and location to location – generally the range is from $2,500 to $5,000. Patients treated in clinical studies showed improvement for up to a year after treatment.”
